ue to mass gathering restrictions that continue under Governor Tom Wolf’s yellow phase, a traditional graduation ceremony on the originally scheduled date of Friday, June 5 is not possible. Therefore we will now move to the next scheduled date which is Friday, June 26 (rain date of Saturday, June 27). In early- to mid-June, we will determine whether to move to the third scheduled date of Friday, July 24 (rain date of Saturday, July 25). This decision will be based on any mass gathering restrictions in place at that time. Know that we plan to honor our seniors in whatever way possible on either July 24 or July 25 if we have to move the date to July. We have planned several alternative celebrations if a traditional ceremony cannot be held because of mass gathering restrictions. Because of the fluidity of the situation, it would be premature to announce the final plan at this time. That information will be shared with families in June.

While an in-person graduation ceremony cannot be held on our graduates’ original graduation date, the district has worked closely with South Park Township, South Park Township Police, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department, the Library Volunteer Fire Company, and Allegheny County Police to plan another celebration of the Class of 2020 for June 5. Throughout the past two months, we have seen the strength and resilience of our community. Therefore, we wanted to bring this Class of 2020 celebration to as many parts of the township as we could. Therefore, we are planning a “Class of 2020 Cavalcade” on Friday, June 5. This parade will begin at the upper parking lot of Eagle Stadium and travel throughout the township to as many neighborhoods as possible. The tentative parade route can be found here. Please note, it was not possible to take this parade to every neighborhood. Also, it is not possible to take the parade into neighborhoods which end in cul-de-sacs. However, taking the parade to as many neighborhoods as feasible prevents the gathering of a large number of people on one particular road or in one particular area. For parade spectators, we remind you to follow all social distancing guidelines.

The details of the “Class of 2020 Cavalcade” are:

The parade is currently scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 5, weather permitting. Seniors may begin to arrive at the upper stadium parking lot (2178 Ridge Road) at 5:15 p.m.

One car per senior will be permitted. Family members are invited to be in the car with the senior. We encourage the seniors to be the passengers of the vehicle so they can fully enjoy the experience.

Seniors wishing to be part of the parade must complete this RSVP form by Friday, May 29 at noon. Only those who have registered through this form by the deadline will be permitted in the parade.

Those who completed the registration will receive a placard to display on their windshield the evening of the parade. Placards will be distributed to seniors on June 1 when students turn in their textbooks and Chromebooks. The placard must be displayed on the dashboard when arriving at the stadium lot on June 5 for check-in.

Once students arrive at the stadium parking lot, everyone must remain in vehicles. This is to maintain proper social distancing. Anyone exiting a vehicle will be asked to leave and will not be permitted to participate in the parade.

All drivers are reminded to obey all traffic laws during the parade. Please leave 10-15 feet between vehicles.

Once a vehicle is in the parade, it must remain in the parade until the conclusion.

The parade will conclude at the upper parking lot of Eagle Stadium. Once again, no one is permitted to exit a vehicle.

We want to thank South Park Township, the South Park Township Police Department, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department, the Library Volunteer Fire Company, and the Allegheny County Police Department for their assistance in planning this special event and for their participation in it.
