SPEC Scheduling Information

The PowerSchool Parent Portal has opened for the 2022-2023 school year. In the Parent Portal, you will find your child’s class schedule and homeroom assignment.

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is available for all K-12 families. It provides parents/guardians with real-time access to attendance, grades, schedules, homeroom assignments, and other information. Report cards will now be available through PowerSchool.

New students will receive information about how to set up their PowerSchool accounts either at orientation or at the beginning of the school year.

We have created a PowerSchool page on our 2022-2023 school year website. There, you’ll find more information about the Parent Portal, how to set up your Parent Portal account, how to link additional students to your existing Parent Portal account, as well as a technical support form to use if you experience issues with your Parent Portal account.

If you have questions, please contact your school office. Please be patient as our office and technology staff will handle issues in the order they are received.

NEW TO SPEC SCHEDULES

This school year, you’ll notice several changes to your child’s elementary center schedule.

First, the district will continue its academic intervention program designed and implemented during the 2021-2022 school year to address the learning interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Focusing on reading and math, interventionists at South Park Elementary Center, joined by our general education teachers, special education teachers, and instructional specialists, will provide intervention instruction for all students. This school year, all elementary center students will participate in 30 minutes of reading intervention and 30 minutes of math intervention every day. These sessions will provide skills-based instruction to accelerate each learner’s progress. These periods are labeled as intervention on every student’s schedule.

Second, the hiring of an additional school counselor at the elementary center will now allow our counselors to be part of the specials rotation. Mrs. Angela Cieslak, K-1 counselor, and Mrs. Kari Havel, 2-4 counselor, will teach social/emotional learning curriculum and provide school counseling services during this specials class labeled as “Counseling” on every student’s schedule.

With the addition of a counseling specials class to the existing specials rotation of art, music, physical education, library, and technology, South Park Elementary Center will transition to a six-day specials rotation calendar. On your child’s schedule in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you will see Days 1-6 listed. The specials class (counseling, art, music, physical education, library, or technology) listed for each day will remain consistent for the entire school year. For example, if your child’s schedule has art listed on day 1, he/she will have art on every day 1 throughout the school year.

Families will receive a specials calendar on a monthly basis. The specials calendar will also be available on the elementary center website, spec.sparksd.org. The link to the specials calendar for August and September is available by clicking here. Generally, if school were to be closed, that day's rotation assignment would be skipped, and the specials schedule will remain unchanged for the rest of the week and month.
