SPMS Scheduling Information

The PowerSchool Parent Portal has opened for the 2022-2023 school year. In the Parent Portal, you will find your child’s class schedule.

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is available for all K-12 families. It provides parents/guardians with real-time access to attendance, grades, schedules, homeroom assignments, and other information. Report cards will now be available through PowerSchool.

New students will receive information about how to set up their PowerSchool accounts either at orientation or at the beginning of the school year.

We have created a PowerSchool page on our 2022-2023 school year website. There, you’ll find more information about the Parent Portal, how to set up your Parent Portal account, how to link additional students to your existing Parent Portal account, as well as a technical support form to use if you experience issues with your Parent Portal account.

If you have questions, please contact your school office. Please be patient as our office and technology staff will handle issues in the order they are received.

ELECTIVES

When reviewing your child’s schedule, you will notice the scheduling of specials/electives courses.

All fifth and sixth grade students are scheduled for six specials/electives throughout the school year. All fifth and sixth grade students will be scheduled for physical education, health, library, and the new social/emotional learning and career readiness course. Additionally, all sixth grade students will be scheduled for AET (applied engineering and technology) and FCS (family consumer science). Fifth grade students will be scheduled for two other available electives. The social/emotional learning and career readiness course is taught by one of the middle school counselors. Fifth and sixth grade students are scheduled for a specials class every day for 30 days. On the 31st day, students will begin a new specials class. The specials class listed first on your child’s schedule is the class he/she will have for the first 30 days of school. The middle school will share reminders with fifth and sixth grade families of the dates when the specials classes will rotate.

Seventh and eighth grade students will rotate through their specials/electives on a trimester basis. This is new for the 2022-2023 school year. For approximately 60 consecutive school days, a student will have one of his/her specials/elective classes. The middle school will share reminders with seventh and eighth grade families of the dates when the specials/elective classes will rotate. Please note, eighth grade students who registered for German I will have German I every day for the entire school year.

All seventh and eighth grade students are scheduled for a physical education class, a social/emotional learning and career readiness class, and a library class. Their other specials/electives classes were chosen based on the scheduling process completed late last school year.

The new social/emotional learning and career readiness course is listed on students' schedules as “SEL/CR.” In this school-wide course, our school counselors will go into the classrooms teaching social/emotional learning curriculum and connecting students with community resources and information on career interests. Social/emotional learning focuses on developing and applying the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to manage emotions, achieve goals, and make responsible decisions.
