Class of 2023 Families:

While the new school year is only in its first few weeks, it is never too early to begin looking ahead to your child’s next chapter. If that next chapter includes attending a college, university, or trade/technical school, you may have questions about how to pay for a post-secondary education. The high school counseling department is excited to share information about an upcoming event to help you answer some of those questions.

FREE FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Completion Night at South Park High School

Tuesday, November 15, 2022

6 p.m.

South Park High School Media Center (Library)

At this free, in-person event, families will have the opportunity to work with a financial aid expert and will complete the FAFSA on site.

Registration is required by Tuesday, November 8, 2022. To register, click here.

Further instructions will be emailed to families who register. However, families will be asked to bring social security numbers; alien registration number (for non-US citizens); personal email address for the student (not a school email address) and parent; 2021 W-2 forms; records of untaxed income received (including workers’ compensation, child support, payments to tax-deferred pension, savings plans, etc.); your 2021 federal income tax return 1040 and accompanying schedules; and the total amount of your current bank statements and records of stocks, bonds, 529 plans, and other investments.

If a family plans to attend, they will need to create the FSA ID account for the student and parent prior to attending. There have been some instances where families couldn’t complete the FAFSA (sign or access the IRS Data Retrieval Tool) because they created the account the day they were filling out the FAFSA. This YouTube video explains that process.

If you have any questions, contact the high school counseling office at (412) 655-3111, extension 2010 or email your school counselor.
