The new hallways, classrooms and common spaces of South Park Middle School were filled with student work and projects on Wednesday, May 3 for the South Park Middle School Showcase. Hundreds of parents, family members and community members were able to tour the renovated building and see the amazing things South Park students do every day during this special event.

The South Park Middle School Showcase had a high-tech feel in the tech-education lab. Student projects from middle school through high school were on display for parents and community members to see the progression of the technology education curriculum in the South Park School District. Students of all ages enjoyed being able to see a 3D printer make hand spinners.

The creativity of South Park Middle School students was on display as the South Park Middle School’s Art Show was held as part of the South Park Middle School Show. Students’ art projects were featured in the art classroom and throughout the school hallways. Art came to life in one of the most interactive exhibits of the night. Two middle school students performed as living statues throughout the evening outside the art classroom.

The South Park Middle School band was also a key part of the South Park Middle School Showcase. Students performed all evening in the lobby, hallways and classrooms. Parents, family members and community members were treated to dozens of group and individual performances in the band room. High school band members were also on hand to encourage middle school students to continue or even begin their music careers when they enter high school.

Student projects were featured in every corner of the building. Those projects included course-related projects, patriotism haiku, scale houses and poetry. One of the most moving exhibits of the evening was the eighth grade butterfly project. The project served as a remembrance of the children who died during the Holocaust. Eighth graders also presented their science fair projects in the new cafeteria. In the computer lab, visitors got a glimpse of the photo design, web design and game design software students at both South Park Middle School and South Park High School use every day.

“The South Park Middle School Showcase was a great way to open the doors of the renovated South Park Middle School to parents, families and community members,” said South Park School District Superintendent Wayne Gdvoic. “However, the best part of the evening was seeing the pride on the faces of our students when they had the chance to show others their work, projects and abilities. This night celebrated the great results of a year’s worth of hard work, studying and commitment.”
