District Hires Director of Curriculum, Academics, & Innovation

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, the South Park School District Board of Directors hired Dr. Erica Kolat as the district’s director of curriculum, academics, and innovation effective July 1, 2021. Dr. Kolat brings 23 years of experience to the district. 


Dr. Kolat comes to the South Park School District from the Pennsylvania Department of Education where she served as a comprehensive support and improvement specialist with the Chester County Intermediate Unit. There, she supported and coached 94 schools, focusing on data and professional learning experiences. Prior to her role with the state, Dr. Kolat worked in local districts, both in the classroom and in administration. She was the superintendent of the McGuffey School District for more than six years. Dr. Kolat also served as the assistant superintendent in the McGuffey School District for four years. While with the McGuffey School District, she was responsible for curriculum, instruction, assessment, federal programs, professional learning and grant writing. Dr. Kolat also worked as an assistant principal, principal and  assistant to the superintendent in the Chartiers-Houston School District. Dr. Kolat began her career as a high school English teacher in the Central Greene School District.


Presently, Dr. Kolat serves as a mentor and leadership institute teaching fellow with the
Data Wise Project at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The Data Wise Project provides support to educators in using collaborative data inquiry to foster continuous improvement of teaching and learning for all students. 


Dr. Kolat holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education from West Virginia University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Point Park University and a doctoral degree in school leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. She has earned a certificate in advanced educational leadership from Harvard University.
